Director CEMB-PU Speaks on Biotechnology and Food Security at Pakistan Academy of Sciences Dialogue

Director, Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore, Prof. Moazur Rahman, participated as a panelist in a National Dialogue titled “Biotechnology — A Strategic Tool to Address Climate Change and National Food Security”, organized by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences on April 7, 2026.
During the panel discussion on Biotechnology and Pakistan’s Food Security Future, Prof. Moaz highlighted CEMB’s role in developing indigenous three-gene cotton technology. He emphasized that the emergence of resistance in targeted pests against Bt crops is becoming a significant challenge over time, underscoring the urgent need for stewardship strategies to ensure timely replacement of existing technologies with third- and fourth-generation cotton varieties.
He further stressed that strategic investment in poultry vaccines is essential to safeguard the rapidly growing poultry sector, which plays a crucial role in national food security and rural livelihoods.
